The Cobrinha Experience in Korea

On July 9th, our Grand Master Cobrinha came to Korea to have his 3rd seminar whichwas held in Action Reaction Korean Branch of Alliance Team. Everytime I see him, I can see that he's not just a 4 time big name world champion but a humble, respectful man with a warm heart. I think that is the reason why everyone respects him.

On the first day of the seminar, we were learning lots of new moves that were very practical. Master Cobrinha was emphasizing how important applied pressure is while explaining the moves.


At the end of the seminar, we went over the moves that we learned and Master Cobrinha kindly sparred with everyone in the gym. Everyone was happy with the seminar and they were already anticipating the next one lol.

The second seminar was held in Sam San World Gymnasium on the 10th of July. Before we started it, Master Cobrinha surprised Master Kang by giving him a black belt. Master Cobrinha announced that Master Kang deserves it because of his great effort and passion for Jiu-jitsu and also being a great athlete who constantly participated in the tournament.


Master Cobrinha focused on attacking from sitting guard and most of the moves were very new to us. I mean we knew the moves but the details that he gave to us made the move completely different compare to the moves we knew.



If you see him sparring in front of you, you'll be amazed by how smooth his moves are.


At the end of the seminar we had a Q&A time with the grand master andI really thought it was a valuable time. He was sharing all of his philosophy in Jiu-jitsu with everyone and I was very inspired by it.

Rubens Charles Maciel (b. December 24, 1979), aka "Cobrinha" and sometimes referred to as Rubens "Cobrinha" Charles, is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) competitor. He is considered the best featherweight of the decade and to be among the best pound for pound jiu jitsu competitors in the world. Cobrinha is a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu under Fernando "Terere" Augusto and a member of Alliance Jiu Jitsu. Cobrinha has won a total of six world championship titles in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu as a black belt in the featherweight (or lightweight) category. He started training BJJ in 2000, received his black belt in 2005, and has since won every World Jiu-Jitsu Championship in which he has competed - a total of eight. He is known for his attacking style of jiu jitsu and, in particular,for his guard. His guard was voted the best Guard of the Decade by fellow World Champions.

He is an instructor at Alliance Martial Arts, in Atlanta, Georgia,
which is the headquarters of the reigning world team champions, Alliance.

Master Cobrinha will share all of his skills and techniques from the experiences in his historical fights and seminars.

-Attack and defense, instructions on wrong moves
-How to set up for combination attacks.
-New techniques and movement followed by trend
-Q&A
-Sparring

Date: Saturday, July 10th / 4:00pm~7:30pm (Total 210min.)
